Once missed a deer at a short range. It ran straight out into a soy bean field and finally stopped. I determined to make a perfect shot,, but lost the deer in the scope after firing. Finally I found it and shot again. Climbed down from my stand and went to my truck. Drove to a path nearer the deer and let my dog out. I found the deer and the dog found the other. Didn’t know I had killed either. A friend drove up and asked where I was sitting. He ranged it at 545 yds. Rifle was a 270 shooting hand loaded Sierra 140 grain bullets.
