My son's family is here for the holidays and wanted to go get the Christmas trees. We got one for us, one for Nate's family and one for my mother and father in law.

When my kids got a little older we shot our trees down with Glocks. Nate's girls are a little to young to enjoy that so we just used a boring sawsall.

Nate's family helped great grandma and grandpa get their tree in and decorated.

We got ours in the stand

I got our outside Christmas decorating done. It was such a mild fall The Geraniums are still blooming.

Not anymore, actually we don't put a tree up anymore, but when the kids were small, and we were short of funds, I'd cut the nicest red cedar I could find....

The branches were a bit weepy, and it smelled a little funny, but the price was right, lol

We cut our own most years. We do have a fake one in case I don't get out and cut one.

Now since I live alone in a small cabin I don't put up a tree. But this post brought back happy memories from a time when I had 3 little kids call me daddy. Each year it was tradition to bundle up the kids and I would take them on some pretty long hikes thru the pastures looking for that perfect GREEN red cedar evergreen. I let the kids carry a dulled flat small camp axe...one year it was a fake plastic chain saw that made a growling sound.... When we found the perfect tree we all could agree on it was time for a bunch of pictures of 3 kids .... age 3 to 8 years old ... smiles from ear to ear... cutting down the PERFECT tree they found. That was 40 years ago...memories for sure.....

Our family goes out into the woods and cuts a tree every year, it's a tradition.

We cut a cedar every year since my son was born. He is 13 now. Our second year was one of our best looking trees but after getting it indoors in the heat we discovered that somthing had been urinating on it regularly. Didn't smell until it warmed up and was decorated. My grandma will never understand our charlie brown tree but it has became our tradition.

I saw some dandy black spruce trees when I was moose hunting in Newfoundland this month. I’ll bet it would be hard to sell farmed trees there….too many nice ones in the woods.

We like black spruce up here. Especially the ones that are "going to fall across the trail at any moment".

Got ours cut yesterday. Insane amount of cars, waited in line 1 1/2 hours to get into the tree farm. It opened 1 hour earlier. The foot of snow we got today had everyone out.

I gotta laugh. The last couple years Christmas trees skyrocketed in price in some heavily urbanized areas like Los Angeles. Reports of a nice tree selling for $300..... eek

It started a new crime.....lol
People stealing a Christmas tree off of a car roof while parked and unattended.

There are YouTube videos of these thefts.

I bet it continues in these areas this season. laugh

Now we know where the scrouge lives......in L.A........lol

Got our tree in and decorated. We're blessed to live in an area we can be on the forest within 20 minutes with multiple species to choose from. This year we went for a subalpine fir.
Merry Christmas.

We have a white spruce at the end of our drive. It was cute when it was a baby but has been trending into the drive. It will be our tree this year.
