Oh I think they thin out more than pheasants. Oh I bet they do. I will spots of feathers now till spring a lot get killed.

hawks overhead and the dogs nose needs to be about 6 inches from the bird before the go up

I dont think its wrong for a human to kill competition predators any more than it is for bobcats to kill housecats, wolves to kill coyotes, coyotes to kill fox etc. We humans are at least smart enough to not eradicate competing predators.

Could be a young golden for sure. I just can't tell but yes it has the characteristics of an eagle. Balds and goldens I see all the time there.

That's called wildlife management. It used to be common practice before wildlife management went woke.
