Who uses an electric or rechargeable fillet knife? Do they work good? Which one do you recommend and why? Looking to use it for fresh water bluegills to salt water sheepshead.

I remember watching my grandpa use one on bluegills years and years ago. After wrecking three fish in a row, the knife went flying out of the boathouse and into the lake. He went back to a regular filet knife.

I run an American Angler 110v electric. Used mainly on walleye, but some perch as well. Gills will take a delicate touch, but can be done. Not sure on how soft the bones are on a salt water sheepshead, but any electric knife will struggle on the freshwater variety. My American Angler has lasted me about 15 years now. Before that I was burning up 1 or 2 of the Rapala electrics a year. I’ve used a Bubba recharable. I wasn’t a fan of it. Didn’t fit right in my hand.

I look at it like this....Guys that fillet fish for a living would use them if it made them faster or more efficient.

If you watch the Pro's, they're fast, and they don't leave enough on the rack to feed the flies.

I usually only clean couple fish so I just use a regular knife but I have the 20 dollar Mister Twister elec knife and will use it if I have several. I alway thought it worked pretty well

I use one for large crappies if I have a lot to clean for guests. For myself I rarely keep enough fish at one time to bother with it.

My current fillet knives are the Bubba brand. I did not like the rechargeable version (and it is the best rechargeable version I have found) when compared to the corded version.

I filet well over a thousand fish a year between crappie/panfish/bass/catfish/suckers. The Bubba’s have held up well the past 3 years. I have 2 of the corded and alternate usage.

If there is a better knife, I would own it. I still use my Cutco filet knife on the rare occasion.

I have used the Bass Pro battery powered for 2 years now. Walleye, smallmouth, catfish, crappie, white bass. Works well on all of them and the battery holds charge.
They are on sale right now.

My first fillet knife was a corded electric one a Rapala that gets used on walleye and crappie so far , I also have a Bubba fillet knife but haven't used it yet , sadly I don't go fishing as often as I once did .

In all honesty my suggestion is to get the fillet knife that fits your hand the best and is the most comfortable to hang onto ! Because you're the one going to use it and if you're not comfortable holding onto it you're not going to enjoy how it works as you may rush the cutting action and mess it up .

Just my .02¢ worth ha ha

You're friend along the snare line .

Also have a bass pro battery operated. Had for several years and no problems bought a backup battery but never needed to use. Our limit were I fish is 15 crappie so with my daughter I’m working up 30 fish. Also 15 white bass so 30 again. Been a good one. Use to use a mister twister but got tired of dealing with a extention cord if I have a few fish still use a regular fillet knife

I’ve worn out several on crappies.. I use the electric ones WAL-MART sells for $19 now.. they work as good or better than the $100 ones.. i tried a cordless bubba and despised it.. I don’t know why, but it put my wrist at a odd angle and after about 10 fish, I put it up..

What I use. Can clean a couple hundred crappie off one charge. It has spoiled me. Great knife!
