Did so for about 20 years, it was alot of work but fun

I had around 30 milk cans that I would distribute to the local dairy

They would fill them with colostrum milk and antibiotic milk

Always raised 4 hogs a year, they grew well on milk as a daily liquid

My best and worst memories farming invole pigs.

I keep about 10 breeding sows as a sideline hobby to keep myself busy when I'm not at the dairy. Nothing better than a farrowing that went well. And nothing worse than one that went really bad. But I wouldn't give them up for nothing.

I once upon a time had 8 yorkshire gilts that I had fed out on okara and nutria/beaver carcasses. ( Okara is the spent soy that they use to make tofu). Anyway, I decided to breed them so I bought a Lancaster boar at auction that weighed just under 900 lbs. I had them in a pasture so when the boar wanted to mount one of the gilts (which he outweighed by about 600 lbs) I needed him to finish fast so he didn't break them down. That meant I sometimes had to help make the "love connection" to hurry things along. For those that know, a hog has a pretty interesting looking and long penis. One memory that stands out is the darn thing doubling up when it missed on a thrust and squirting his full load square in my face from mouth to eyeballs!

Ah yes, raising pigs....such fond memories! LOL

Always raised a pig or two when I was poor, lol

Love the darn things, fed them out on commercial duck feed, cheap, pumpkins, free, and killies....salt water minnows...also free, lol

Actually, I think he just needs to change his name to "Pigpeeler"!

Worked hogs from high school til a while after college. My favorite was a farrow to finish operation with some outside pens to go with the confinement. Along with a couple thousand acre grain operation. Great family and coworkers-best job I ever had

My uncle had a hog farm, when I was a young teen my family would drop me off at his house for 3 or 4 weeks every summer. Room and board for la or is what it was. Lots of good times and lots of bad.
One always stands out in my memory.

My cousin and I picked a couple armloads of corn from the field and tossed it in the sty. What fun it was to watch them hogs fight over it!!
We went out for a hike after that and when we got back my Uncle Joe and the vet were in the barn sewing up a lot of hogs that got cut up bad fighting over that corn.
Well needless to say I never seen my Uncle that mad EVER!
I spent the rest of the summer working from dusk till dawn on that farm. My cousin got the whooping of his life

That was one bad time but there were plenty of good ones too

All the money in the world couldn't get me to raise them animals after those summers

Sweet baby Jesus. I wasn't expecting to read a reply along these lines.
I'm laughing so hard that it hurts.
A man's gotta be secure in his skin to tell this story
Beaverpeeler thank you for the laugh of the day.
