Nice flies Marty. I love fishing poppers too. I also love to spin hair but they really dont fish well after a few bites. I experimented for years and settled on his as my go to. Its essentially a NYAP (a fly for GTs) scaled down. I use 1/4” foam. Cut your head and burn a hole in the bottom with a bobbin. You can make a mess of these quick. Just a short strip of rabbit on the hook. Super glue the head, then sharpie. #2 lightwire hook. Heres a few before and one after. Its a small fly for sure, but big and small bass like it all the same.

I go to a guys house a few towns away...and get all my flies there.

He is a commercial fly tier

Beautiful stuff.

I once caught a wood duck in a 330 set for beaver...said to myself..

I bet Ron the Fly guy could use this duck....and boy did he evah !!

He slid me a ton of flys for that duck

I’ve caught perms/ bones/ triggers on flexos in Cuba,Honduras,Mexico and Belize

Great crab pattern,,,, match the bottom color

Light color for sandy flats,,, olive for weedy flats

They’re crabs so not a lot movement

I believe you’re describing a strong arm merkin type fly,,,, also a great fly

I didn’t tie the flys above. My buddy, who’s a very talented tyer that I’ll be fishing with in March texted me the pic tonight

He’s getting ready,,, he needs more flexos. lol

DT here’s a ( not very good) pic of some flexo’s from my personal box,,,

U can add a single trailing claw,, like on the left,,,a flexo/strongarm kinda thing

Currently,,, all the rage are flexos with “guts”. Just some dubbing(brighter colours) under the tubing,, as seen on the right of the pic,,, they work great and been the only thing I’ve been fishing these last couple years

A south African dude that works out on the Seychelles put me onto the “guts” thing

I think there’s something to it

Where are you fishing at, BT ? I'm getting ready to start around here at Medicine Park.

What little serious fly fishing I have done has been mostly at Beaver's Bend in OK for trout

Have been thinking of trying the Blue River around Tishimingo OK but it is half again farther and from the looks of it, limited places to stay if you don't have a camper.
Jan and Feb are too cold to tent camp and fly fish, doubt I would ever thaw out

I need to get after the bass and crappi in the 2 little ponds I have, also need to get the one going with some hybrid bream so these grandsons will have something fun to catch

Gotcha

Streamers on sinking line for crappie or what is the method?
