Big Sam. You are correct on fire. Back in the 70s there were some major fires up in the arrow head. Mid 70s. This did 2 things. Burned off old forest. Killed ticks. Brought in new growth. Perfect browse for moose.

In 1985 thru 1988 I hunted and trapped the Echo trail up on the moose river. The fire trails were still prevalent. We drew a moose permit in 1987. There were plenty of moose. It all went south as the deer rebounded. And so did the wolves. Just my 2 centd

Thank you for your input Pete. I trapped that same country three winters in a row. We saw one cow track in that time. Plenty of wolf sign though. That would have been 21-23 I think.

The MN DNR has been doing the same study, year after year, for 30 years. Spent tens of thousands of dollars to figure out the same thing. Maybe millions. Taxpayer funded, along with other sportsman dollars.

Give me an fing break!

We can't even hunt for them, but the Indians from 3 different states can kill upwards of 20 moose per year, here. Wow. I wonder how much money the tribes from out of state, that get to come here and kill our moose, have invested in these never ending studies...

Kind of a sore spot with me.

The way our state manages moose, elk, marten, fisher, and wolves are all sore spots with me.

The Moose collaring was stopped once due to excessive stress and death due to netting them from helicopters. Wonder what has changed?

Net gunning and mugging Moose from a helicopter in February does cause mortality and stress in them. I was involved in one such project and that was enough.

I have nothing clever to put here.
