heck yes! it is pretty much my go to for smoking as it is abundant near me. it is great for smoking, has good flavor makes a great coal bed. burns hot like hedge without the popping. give it a go you will like it! you being from missouri you should have good access to pecan and cherry wood for smoking!

I grill on mulberry almost every week. I'll be doing it tomorrow. My friend, Thad, who frequently wins the World Barbecue Championship with his group Boars Night Out, in multiple categories, including whole hog, uses mulberry in his blends. He grew up next door and we both learned barbecuing from his dad, Big Thad, who used mulberry. Thad has his own barbeque restaurant just outside of Chicago called Little Nicks.

I like using 3/4" to 2 1/2 thick pieces of mulberry to grill on. It makes usable coals very fast. I sometimes add other fruit and nut woods, grapevine and nut shells.

I keep IBC totes of small pieces of mulberry and other wood, just for grilling on.

I use the leaves for dying snairs, I'll have to give the wood a try on the grill.

I've got some dead mulberry trees that need to come down. Now I'll save some of the wood and give it a try.

By the way, mulberry trees are great for pollarding to make cooking wood. I cut them off about 3' high after leaf drop and then cut off the new branches, close to the original cut, the following Fall, or the one after. Mulberry produces lots of long, straight branches for cutting up for cooking when you do that.

You won't be disappointed. You'll wish you had done it sooner.

I grilled London Broil on plum, pear and mulberry wood tonight. We had 45mph wind gusts yesterday, so the meat got to marinate for an extra day. It was good.
