Just so you know, I have just learned from the ODFW Furbearer coordinator that HB 3932 will indeed go into effect 1/1/26. I had been told earlier that it would not go into effect until after the Game Commission convened in June, so not until the 26-27 season.

Most of the beaver water that is adjacent to public land will now be off limits beginning in the new year.

Very sad for the trappers of Oregon. The state has such a rich history of the fur trade going back 100s of years. Even Lewis & Clark in their expedition to further the fur trade wintered in 1805 / 1806 near present day Astoria, Oregon. For many decades earlier ocean-going ships along the Pacific Coast traded with natives for sea otters for the China trade.

Disheartening that trappers are slowly but inevitably losing the ability to do what they have done for hundreds of year in North America.

Done deal, unfortunately. Its been said before, but if trapping is important to you, think long and hard before you vote for a Democrat. They will do whatever they can to take away trapping opportunities from you.

Most of the Willamette will not be affected is my understanding. ODFW is not interpreting public stream beds as public land as per the statute, just what the adjacent landowner is on impacted waterways.

Swamp, it will suck to be a game warden. Those waters are still open to otter and nutria trapping. If i catch a beaver I have to leave it right there and inform OSP and ODFW of the fact. Can't transport it.

Will they send currently licensed trappers a notice, and a copy of the ordinance so we can comply?

Oh, they will fix that easy enough. They'll just ban otter and nutria trapping in those areas; "it's an enforcement issue", you know.

That is what I figured as well but when asked our coordinator said there is no plan to do so.

Not sure how to interbit the law ? so are you saying you cannot access private land to trap beaver from public land ? Can you still trap beaver on private land if you have permission?
