Im not against stopping treatment if its the person's wish and I haven't read the law but devaluation of life is a very slippery slope and the left never stop pushing us farther down that slope. Its the beginning of something that we will look back at and wish we hadn't taken that first step. Im sure in Canada, as someone else posted, you can find where it leads too. Assisted suicide is the first step towards legalizing for someone else to make the decision whether someone gets treatment or if they should continue living.

Stopping treatment and killing someone are two different things. No one should be required to take medical treatments, but giving them a lethal injection or something similar is a whole other story.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I think bowhunter must be a mind reader....as he mentioned what hospice does at the end....morphine o.d.
As mentioned already we treat our animals better than humans at the end of life.

I think assisted suicide should be allowed, but worry that the government and insurance companies will corrupt it.

It should be allowed in all states. A DNR that you fill out when in the hospital is just one of the legal ways that is available in all states. DNR medically stands for Do Not Resuscitate. But you should have choices if you are terminally ill.

Oregon has had its Death With Dignity Law on the books since 1997. There was a lot of drama about it when it was being voted on but you never hear about it anymore so i assume that means that it is working just as the proponents had hoped it would.

My FIL was at end stage lymphoma. He was going to die and chemo only prolonged the death date.

He reached a point he could not bear in pain and chemo. He called everyone and said his goodbyes. He took off the oxygen, that was at max, and they gave him full rein on the morphine pump.

That is assisted suicide. It just isn't talked about in that fashion. And it has been done for decades.

I have a great friend who has glioblastoma. 100% terminal. He is choosing to do chemo and radiation. That is his choice. But in the end if he changes his mind, I won't blame him one bit.

It hurts seeing a friend with a counter on his days. I call him often and talk as if all is like it was. I do ask how he is getting along and he isn't complaining. He knows. I just hope it is painless and fast. I hope they give him full access to the morphine pump when the time comes if he chooses.

My father is in constant pain everyday. His hip and legs are done with no hope for surgery. His life is miserable and you can see it in his eyes. His overall health is fine. He lives in a recliner, at the kitchen table, in the bathroom, and in the bed. He goes out with a buddy about every two weeks to get lunch. He asked me last time when he had to go to the hospital, Why won't GOD let me die? I told him GOD still has use for him. But...... If he ended his life I would be grief stricken and utterly broken. But I would also smile in knowing there was no more pain.

Assisted suicide happens every day in the hospital whether we want to call it that or not. There is no difference in allowing a morphine overdose than the same person putting a bullet in the temple. There is just a different cause of death listed.

We don't let animals suffer when the pain is too much and they are 100% gonna die. We shouldn't let people suffer either.

I may answer to GOD for this one day, but that will be my cross to bear and anyone else in favor of ending suffering.

Thank You Sir !

3 people that I knew well in my youth have used MAID in the last year. Cancer was taking them in a terrible way anyways. If ever facing this situation personally I know I will too. It won’t affect life insurance either.

It’s pretty much a “don’t like it, don’t do it” situation to me. Maybe everyone is different, but I have a tough time remembering anyone I watched pass as anything other than those last stages. I’ll choose to not go out as someone who looked dead long before they were if I have to.

I haven’t read my life insurance, but I know some older ones don’t pay on suicide no matter when issued, I do agree that it’s a good practice for those who want it I have a cousin that would probably do it as he’s fought cancer for over ten years and found out today that he has a large tumor in his spine that has caused him to lose the use of his legs so now he lays in a hospital bed waiting to die.
