I've only ever caught one red fox in a box trap. It was a small female. The trap was baited with pounce cat treats.

Reds have taken over the Philly suburbs. Been tossing dinner plate scrapings in a 5 gallon bucket. Just a handful thrown in the back on and old Williams cage…..

I wish we had red fox like that. In furbearers, we have mostly raccoons, followed closely by opossums, followed closely by coyotes, with smaller numbers of skunks and mink. Red fox are fairly rare, but more common near towns. Grey fox and weasels are rare, though abundant in small areas. I've done little water trapping. In my area, muskrats and beaver have okay numbers in pockets.

I haven't kept a red fox in years.

If we set around the farmsteads for coon/skunks we get reds and the rare coyote or cat even in my 14X14X36 cages.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I gangset places and get real tired of releasing feral cats, at landowner’s request. You just don’t realize how many are roaming around when you are cage setting around buildings for skunks,
