So!!!! I will let you in on a little secret. In 1990-91 season. We got pounded with a blizzard 10/31/1990. I lived in MN at the time.
We punched in pockets on the side of the creeks. At water level which was frozen ice. 4 inches plus.

When everything becomes frozen. Food is scarce. Survival over rides fear. We laid the traps on top of the ice. With grass spread over them. Caught quite a few fox and mink. If you can’t blend your trap in. Blend the area in to your trap. This area to the pocket was a 3 foot area. Big bait in the pocket. Good strong lure. Not every canine or mink committed. But some did. Coyotes as well.

Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

Well I got a coyote and a fox this morning. Pounding the rebar straight in held great. I had to use an axe to get them out this morning. Gives me a little more confidence in setting on the ice now
