This is one of those things we're there is simply to much info online to be helpful. What works for you guys for a varmint stock on an AR? I'm having trouble getting quick scope clarity with the one I have now, could try higher rings but I feel a better stock may help more without getting the scope higher off the gun

Luth MBA3 for me . Lil pricey at $120-$150 depends where you get them but wayyy worth it. Adjustable cheek hight, can extend the butt out for length of pull, as. Even mess with he butt pad a lil . The 3 works like a stand M4 stock , will slip on and off you buffer toob and do the six position deal. But also it has a little set screw that will let you lock it in place and it's solid as a single piece stock ... But you did mention getting higher rings , find having ring too high is usually the issue...but then again my face is smaller then most and I press my cheek into the stock alot so I usually need lower rings and an adjustable cheek rest to get higher and lined up.... If your having issues because the scope is too low then higher rings would make way more sense ...and be cheaper lol

That being said you could also just do the ole tried and true favorite of some vet wrap and bits of yogo mat, or some.other fox and just add some cheek rise to the stock for a few $$$

Thanks Wolfie, think my issue is due to the stock being to short, if I could get some extra length of pull I could rest my head in a more natural position. I have the opposite problem as you, I'm a large guy and everything is small

Ahh ok gotcha , well in that case something. Like my luth stock would give you an extra 3" or so in length. But other then that I'd say a high profile cantilever mount would probably help because it will let you put that sock pretty far forward and high and still have it mouthed on the receiver and not the handguard. Honestly should be too hard for you to find one , heck seem most of them are made for guys like you more then guys like me. Monstrum Tactical has some that won't break the bank and work pretty nice !

Also I think you can buy some slip over butt pads for AR stocks that would give you a but more length of pull.

Hopefully some.of the tall people can help you out better than me laugh

AR's have very little rise in the comb, the scope should be around 3" from center of bore to get a proper cheek weld. But that 3" helps with longer range trajectory

AR = no drop in the stock = problem for some folks with their face shape .Only to be overcome by higher scope mount . I like my Mini 14 though not as accurate as AR sure fits me lots better for quick target acquision . Lots of AR shooters you see with their head tilted at a sharp angle to get their eye low enough for scope . Not all faces are shaped the same !

Thanks guys, I'm remembering why I never liked ARs again... I'm going to try and increase length of pull and if that doesn't work I'll have to get higher rings which is fusterating.

I’m cheap.

I like Magpul.

Their DT-PR stock locks better on the buffer tube allowing little to no wiggle. They also make snap on cheek risers in different heights if needed.

I’m even using one on my chassis rifle.

Plus it’s pretty light. I’d have to spend about $100 an ounce to go any lighter.

Imo seems chasing the rings would be easier then the stock , just hard for you to find ones you like or ?

I just don't like to bring the rings that high off the gun, shots for this gun will be 300 yards and in, likely into less than 10 yards, I feel like you get a bit more predictable impacts with a scope mounted low atleast at close ranges, maybe I'm overthinking it.

I’m assuming you have a fixed length stock now?

If so, can it for just about any adjustable version. You’ll have to get a buffer tube.
