It’s nice being somewhere with like minded individuals. I just don’t get these people. I don’t ever set foot on land I don’t have permission to be on, I don’t even make changes like having my dog come along when I’m on someone else’s land without asking again to clarify that the dog is ok.

if you took there names I would document it with a local warden so you have it on file and if it happens again you would have the file

Tell me I'm wrong.

I think you handled it about as best you could...I would document the trespass, and send a return receipt letter, as you know the miscreants, re-affirming the trespass, time and date, and that the property in question is posted to everyone without permission, and law enforcement action will be taken on any subsequent offense...

I've had to deal with trespassers on my property, its frustrating and I've had the police take action before...most people get it when a cop shows up at their door....but some take it as a challenge.
Trust me, I'm not defending trespassers, just voicing some probabilities..

This is about a fair assessment and I couldn't have said it better. I hate trespassers but it is an uphill battle.

When we had the farm it had 3200 foot of road frontage. Right across the road was a big public hunting grounds. I ran my share off. One that sticks in my mind is once I ran 2 real punks off who cussed me up and down the whole time. They finally left but around 3 hours later a sheriffs car pulls in. He askes if I own is place then tells me he has a complaint that I assaulted those 2 punks. I just stood there not knowing what to say. He goes on and reads there charge to me. Finally I just said, " look at me, if I assaulted those you would of been taking there report from a hospital bed". I'm 6foot 3 inches tall and weigh 280. He tells me he's sure nothing will happen but he had to follow up. Nothing ever happened with because of it. Oh yea, he wouldn't give me there names. It really bugged me for quite awhile over what could of happened.

I knew a landowner in my area that would get people charged for trespassing and then before their court date would get them to pay him directly $300 to drop the charges. One year he made about $3000 doing that. As I understood it it was perfectly legal.

Guy here in Eastern Oregon will have you write him a check for 5000 if he catches you on his land

Some have declined and instead took the charges of criminal trespass , ending up in court , loosing ten grand in the end

We are really nice the first few years we owned our hunting properties. Naive is a better term for it. I'd love to tell you the story from 2 weeks ago involving the amish. Hilarious. No more nice guys here, prosecute, prosecute, prosecute!

In SD if convicted of trespassing the hunter loses his license for a year. Word spreads quickly on what landowners will prosecute and which ones won’t. Easy way to solve the problem is prosecuting and nobody pushes it anymore.

Was that just for criminal trespass? The last guy I caught, I did press charges and he bargained for double the fine to avoid bench probation. All using his court appointed attorney, since, you know he was too broke for an attorney but was able to pay double. go figure

You could have pressed charges and you would not have been unreasonable. People need to respect others.
