Well I received the infamous Collins Street Bakery fruit cake late today. I was a bit surprised, I thought it would be larger for what I paid for it. I havent taken a bite yet, but plan to later this evening. I hope it is as good as my friend Randy touts it to be. I will only cut a small piece to start and go from there.

Here it is.

I have to admit it, I just took a small slice of this $50.00 Fruit cake to sample the flavor. I will say it is good. I never liked fruit cake in previous years and havent had any since. So I must apologize to Randy for doubting his recommendation on that specific fruit cake. I will eat the rest of it in the coming days.

Never had fruitcake in all my life but I always heard people hated it.
Thought it may have been imported from England at that price and I was surprised to see that it’s made in Texas!

Love fruitcake but home made applesauce cake is just as good IMO... have family that makes it but don't have the recipe at my fingertips.
Dug one up... [Linked Image]

Missed this post last night, Bob.

Glad you like it. The last several years I've been buying the biggest cake that they sell and putting half in the freezer and eating the other half. I get to enjoy it twice a year that way. I always treat myself to one at the holidays. They sell them as well as other goodies all year long but I usually get one at Christmas time.

These aren't exactly fruit cake but they are pretty darn good. A lot lighter and fluffier than fruit cake. We get them at walmart. [Linked Image]

I was looking up the bakery to order a fruit cake and found this…………………….

“The Collin Street Bakery scandal involved financial controller Sandy Jenkins embezzling over $16 million from the famous Texas bakery between 2004 and 2013 by writing fraudulent checks, using company funds for lavish personal spending (cars, private flights, luxury cards), and laundering money with his wife, Kay Jenkins, resulting in their federal convictions and prison sentences, a story now being adapted into a movie called Fruitcake.”

That bakery must have made a lot of dough!
