Does anyone make a lure similar to the old Carmen canine call, the newer version doesn't have the same smell.

The old stuff was so good I’d add a 4 ounce bottle to half gallon of liquid yote glands that lasted for a long time.

Canine call is not the only carmen lure sterling screwed up

If you can find Carmens Circle Maker or Circle Maker Magnum they are pretty close to the same.

so, this might not be a fair comparison, as the dates I bought them could be vastly different, and one or the other (or BOTH!) could have lost liquid. and (one or both) could have been opened/abused.

all that to say: this isn't scientific, or maybe even "fair".

but...these are both "the same" lure...

The last bottle I had looked way to light in color from past batches.

Bought my first bottle in 1977, met Russ Carman, at National covention 78. Myself and my trapping partner after that just called Russ and ordered large quantities. That lure more than payed for itself through thr years. Used it in Mo, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico. Lure I used with Canine Call, was Blackies Brush Master

I've used 2 4oz. bottles every year of CCC for at least the last 10 years... This year's was bought at the National in VA and was noticeably thinner and seemed a different color. I didn't have an old bottle to compare it with so I may be wrong about the color but not the thickness. I know different lure batches can be different for a lot of reasons.
I hope I'm wrong about this and future CCC maintains the old formula and results... just my honest observation.
I don't think his old line of lures can be bought from him directly anymore.

A lot of good ingredients are getting real hard to find and real expensive. Very few guys are trapping mink or rats in any numbers like they use to and mink farms are about gone. Not to mention fox, coyote and cat glands. Got to stretch those products pretty thin to make it profitable and/or use synthetics. Even good fish oil is getting hard to find and if you can find it its expensive too.

To be fair, it's not just carmens that has changed. I've been disappointed several times this year.
