My 750s have seen several seasons of use and they no longer set correctly. The pan seems to be more rounded where dog latches and the dog is worn/weathered where there isn’t really much of a notch left to set the trap. Both of these issues make it hard to set the trap without it firing by itself. It is a matter of time before I catch myself. I bought extra pans and dogs. The pan should be easy to replace. The dog looks like a job as it needs bent to slide in holes and then rebent. I tried filing one of the dogs but didn’t get far and didn’t notice any improvement. How do you all keep your 750s running. I haven’t done much beaver trapping last several years but looking forward to it again this year. Thanks.

I fine tune the firing on my 750's prior to every season. I know exactly what you're talking about with those issues but i've always been able to remedy them with a flatbastard file. If need be look at a new or barely used trigger dog to get the groove just right. I also use a 4.5 lb weighted stick to make sure that it springs at the proper weight. Sometimes you need to loosen or tighten the bolt assembly for the pan.

Thanks for reply. Good to know I am not only one with the issues. I will try filing the dog some more. Do you file the pan also and try to square up? Or just file dog?

Yes I do if it needs it. It's pretty easy to mess up the pans so I only work on them if I can see deformities that are not allowing it to function properly.
