What's eveyone found to be some decent ammo in 5.56 and .223? I shoot like 95% of my shooting is done with my handloads so I'm pretty far out the loop on most factory ammo..... seriously , out the 1500 odd rounds of .223/5.56 I probably shot this year...mabye 60-80 where factory.... and that's just for functional testing new guns lol
just looking to for something to keep on hand for when I wanna test a new gun , don't wanna use my hand loads or bring to the range with the boys. Don't want anything super nice like black hills because honestly probably just gonna be mag dumping or slapping steel ....just something y'all found to shoot around 2moa @100yd... Preferably something other then FMJ... Ideally would like to keep it in the $10-$15 a box range.

Eeesh... That's kind of a tough one given the price range , brother. Before I had my .223 rifles rebarreled to accept .17 Rem and .19-.223 ,the only factory ammo I shot were Hornady loaded with Berger bullets . Nowadays, you're looking at $25 .

I am a big fan of Berger's.

Natchez shooter supply has some good deals on brand name manufacturers I can’t see shooting cheap ammo through a good gun I definitely would not shoot thst Russian stuff some of it might be good stuff but it’s not for me.

Talking about like the steel cases stuff ? Yeah nah I don't touch at stuff , just ain't worth it for me . I get more value from brass case mainly because when I'm done I can load them again laugh

Have shot thousands of rounds in 9mm and 5.56. As good as any thing else. They will have sales and free shipping frequently

When my kids first started out, they killed deer with 223 Federal Fusion...did a fine job, but im guessing they are out of your price range for what you are wanting to do.

223 is the one round that I dont put much effort into reloading for. Have one universal loading that I just swap back and forth between soft points and ballistic tips and if I went thru 75 of those a year I'd be shocked. I do have a couple thousand factory PMC 55 grainers stashed away that routinely go into less than a minute but they are fmj so wouldnt meet your needs. Given its the only round I buy off shelf ammo for my take away when shopping is there are basically two groupings when it comes to factory---fmj and premium end hunting stuff, lots of full copper or heavy weight stuff. You may need to do fair amount of shopping to find a run of the mill non full metal jacket 55 grain that you consider affordable. Think the last boxes of Hornady varmint stuff I bought were around $30 a box. Sure there is cheaper stuff but I dont think that is where the market has most of them producing at the moment

I catch the PMC soft point on sale for about $10 a box, and Hornady custom 55 grain soft points run $25 for a box of 50. No problems with either one . Those prices are frpm Bud's Gun Shop , usually the best price on ammo I can find.

I recently got turned on to Black dot ammo out of Crawford, Alabama. I havent shot all their .223 offerings, but im sure they will do 2moa from a decent rifle. We shoot matches with their 9mm.

frontier was about 11.99 a box today at farm and fleet not the best price but decent 60 cents a round +tax it's fairly good ammo , stuff you could definitly trust to funtion tests just 55g xm193

on luckygunner frontier is 41 cents https://www.luckygunner.com/223-rem-55-grain-fmj-hornady-frontier-800-rounds
have to see what shipping adds to that
