I am reading the answers over and over and thinking about how to make these changes work on my trapline. I have some great ideas thanks to you and this thread! I appreciate all the information. Looking at your pictures, reading the thread and using your answers sure helps make me a better trapper. Thank you!

Here are a few things to consider for those that check out this thread from time to time.


Keep in mind you have to read between the lines on this thread in many cases.

Like you know, I like to get folks to thinking about coyote trapping in a different light.
I have heard many times, “There is nothing new when it comes to catching Wile E.”.
Don’t you believe it.

When you hear trappers speak in absolutes as far as method & application is concerned,
don’t automatically take it as fact. Put those words to the test.
You will find that a majority of the time they are far from definitive.

Pay attention to the things that matter. Do not get lost in the weeds as many trappers do.
The simplest things are usually the most productive. That goes for methods, sets, and attractants.
Adding more to any of the above is rarely the answer.

The tips and techniques are great to have and needed . I have learned a lot from following this thread.In my opinion if you want to be a better trapper become a student of the coyote and take that knowledge and combine it with the skills you have learned for success.

In regards to the preceding posts on gang setting, do you feel too many different attractions in an area is detrimental? If there are four sets tucked close together and each one has a different smell or visual aspect (bone, scat, feathers, ect) does that put up a coyotes defenses? If you have ever walked into a place like a Hobby Lobby store or a department store in the mall the cacophony of smells is a bit off putting. Do coyotes perceive too many combinations of smells the same way? Do you recommend one primary lure at a location and supplement with some urine and droppings i.e. "low key" flat sets? Or do you use multiple lures at different traps in a gang set location?
