I'd like to try snaring a mink too, but here in Iowa, we have to use a deer stop on our snares.

The bmi mini lock mod I learned from Eric Space.

I’ve used earth anchors and wood stakes and bricks/weights for anchors.

I like a 3-3.5” loop and bottom of loop three fingers off the hard walk surface.

Yep, mid swivel and swivel at the stake is a must. I’ve used the barrel swivels people use on fishing line, work well.

Pocket sets work well even without bait.

To me, Mikes take on the pocket where he put it is good. Sometimes the mink don’t follow the bridge wall up to where it meets the grassy bank. Sometimes they take to the water and swim under and around the grassy bank hoping to surprise a fish around the corner(hence the bottom edge set would be good there).

I use snares but whatever trap you use the main advantage of setting on the bank are the change in water depth (or ice) do not put your set out of action. I know I have mentioned it on this forum many times but the use of a snare fastened to a brick allows the mink to quickly pull it into the water and drown. Better to dispatch the mink and the snare can be reused, often many times.
