Still pretty green with trapping. Today I had a bobcat pull out of a DLS #3, no real catch circle looks like as soon as he hit the end of the cable he was freed. My set was a double walk through with DLS #3 with a flasher up high. I reset it and added a different lure. I also put in two other sets in that area one blind walk through and one with lure and a flasher. Does anyone have any experience with getting a second chance at a cat or do you think he’s long gone?

Hard to say man. Never figured out what a cat is going to do.

I doubt that you'll get a second chance at it in the same set. But you may get it in another set; cats aren't all that smart.

This one is going to leave a burr in my side. I had him hit a blind walk through maybe a 100 yards up that trail a few days ago and the trap didn’t fire. My fault, it wasn’t timed right. He seemed to loop that drainage every 4-5 days

I hope he slips up again

No not right in the set, so I guess yeah it could have been a lion for sure. If that was the case I’m glad I didn’t hold him.

That has been a learning curve, my DLS have pit pans on them. I only have a hand full of traps with dogs. Most all my stuff is dogless. Timing them has been kicking my (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). I think I might have it figured out now.

Use your finger to "time them" then once they're close to where they need to be use your nipple.

Do you know it was a cat?

Around here that is exactly what things look like when a deer sets one off.
Trap is sprung and sitting at the end of chain with no other sign

Like already said, probably will not fall for the same set but can be caught it it was a cat

This was my thought right away. If there was no hair to nail or anything in the trap I would question if it was a cat.

Those expanded pans will increase the likelihood of toe grabs.

Never had an issue with that, we run expanded pads specifically for bobcats.

Expanded pans set EXPOSED don't incease the chance of toe catches at all in my experience.
If the cat can see his next step (this is the whole idea of the exposed trap) he will put it in the very center of the pan.

To the OP it sounds like you either had a deer messing with your set or a trap malfunction.
