Caught my first ever red fox yesterday. I don't target them, but this one somehow got both front paws into the pan and that was enough to set it off. Anyhow, I've done a bunch of yotes and was happy at how easy she was skinning compared to them. I got to the tail and I guess I wasn't paying attention or I made the wrong cuts around the vent and when I went to pull down a littler further before stripping, the tail cam clean off. This was a real bummer as my goal was to get it tanned. I rushed a little around the eyes and nose too near the .22 hole (I think from kinda being (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) about the tail and being careless) and have there's a hole there too.

Anyhow, long story short. Is it worth it or possible to get the tail sewn back on when sending it to get tanned? Will they do that?

I am not sure what a tannery will do but if you have a local Taxidermist maybe he can help you out. He may charge you a few dollars and then maybe not.

easiest thing might be to send it off without the tail to get it tanned and home tan the tail. When you get the fox back you can sew the tail on. If you are going to use it as a wall hanger it won't show if you are careful.

Unless that "1st" one has a sentimental attachment, just target and catch another one.
Probably plenty around there.
Then take better care of skinning it.

Send it and YouTube sewing fur and reattach, if it was your first it’s always worth a little more work

Red fox have thin skin and are easily torn. I've about ripped them in half pulling too hard.

Home tan it w the orange bottle tan solution then sew tail on and sew holes. I tan and sew up roadkill fox easily. Thin leather means easy sewing.

I had it happen once as well, I called Moyles and they said just attach the tail piece to the hide with a zip tie, I did that and sent it in and got it back tanned and all was well. The guy who made the fur hat just sewed the tail back on, you couldn’t tell at all.
