Wanna make a few wooden rabbit traps and a few other things for my wife to sell at the farmer market. Problem is nowhere sells the size wood I want treated or in some kind of water /rot resistant species. But I can get want in non treated pretty easy , especially front eh story my buddy works at .So any suggestions for a good treatment I could use ? Especially one that won't turn critters away ?

Cant you find any cedar boards down that way...? Cedar is naturally resistant to rot and has a natural odor that critters should be used to (again, if you have it in your part of the world)

Look into plastic. Maybe pipes would be easy and cheaper. Or just us untreated wood and sell it raw alow the customer to decide what they want to do with it.

Haven't looked at it in a few years , but that typical film build Thompsons water seal type product looks nice until it starts to peel ....it will ruin your life

He needs a penetrating type product for sure

You can scorch the wood to preserve it too. It's quick and easy with a propane torch or weed burner.

Actually was thinking about that , remember seeing some that had the bundled deal done to them and that looks AMAZING but wasn't sure because anytime I've seen anyone do stuff like that they would go back with used motor oil or something and wasn't sure how long that order would last

It's called Wood-last, I think. It works, however, type of wood will matter, as far as how much is absorbed. Pine, (the most commonly available 1"x10" boards at big box and local lumber stores), won't absorb like cedar, for instance.
Also, use rubber gloves when applying, as it will stain your skin and is not good for the body.

Just doing what I want now.

Prim it,paint it,don’t miss anything….don’t look back …left over latex from the dump ground works fine…if it dries it’s waterproof…don’t over think it.

Can you not get cypress?

That is what I made wood duck boxes and bluebird houses out of and they have lasted years

Another option is porch and deck paint. Had a buddy that used that on homemade pirougues and they lasted a long time, constantly in the water

Thinned boiled linseed oil will work, you can stain it with a cheap oil stain if you want it darker, or a oil base paint thinned 50% will soak in good.
Frankly, I wouldn't bother, unless you leave them set on the ground for months they should be fine.
