Hello all,
I’ve been out of the trapping game since having kids. I still get to the camp but don’ t have the time to manage a trapline. While I’m on hiatus, I’d like to put in some practice sets with no traps and video the action to learn. In the past I’ve tried this but the video would spook coyotes. It’s been many years since I’ve tried videoing coyotes so the technology has probably improved.

What brand of blackout camera would you recommend for video? Any tips on camera positioning would be appreciated too.

TIA

Ive tried a lot of cameras on coyotes and have gotten a lot of videos of them working test sets. Only one I've had good success with is the reveal cameras. Good detection system and don't spook to many coyotes. I use wire to mount them. Less noticeable other than that I just mount them waist high or so.

X2 on the Tactacam Reveals. I use the XB’s and my BIL runs the newer Pro models that have the no-glow and we routinely get multiple shots of all critters - coyote and fox, included. If possible we prefer to mount the cameras up around 6’ or higher off the ground.

Don't forget to make a circle in the dirt pattern where you would have the trap pan.

I've heard a lot good about the Tacticam Reveals, but have never used them myself. A)because I never have cell service anywhere and B)I'm cheap and am putting cameras on public ground where they get stolen, shot, etc. Not to mention the occasional bear ate one.
A guy recommended a Chinese brand off Amazon called Meidase, to me this summer. I haven't had a lot of experience with them yet (I've got two right now I'm trying out) but I've been happy with them so far, no signs of them spooking stuff yet and the picture quality is better, especially at night than some of the other cheap cameras I've tried.
