I have MB chain stakes with come with 16"of chain, then j hooked to my swivel that comes on the short length of chain on my MB550. Im placing my anchor swivel deep and I feel like its way to deep or too much chain for coyote. Im having to drill on 3 sides with my auger to get them kinda loose to remove and it's still super hard to pull out. How far are you setting that anchor in the dirt for yotes???

I gave up on superstakes, too much of a good thing plus the drivers mushroom inside and rivet onto the stake. Wolf fangs are more than sufficient only eight inches down in my clay. Soil type will determine how deep is sufficient for you. An auger is your friend on retrieval. But my clay also eats augers wearing them out to blunt objects in about a year of use.

Can also grind the tip of your SS driver to the shape of a sharpened pencil end......slows the mushrooming greatly.

Also, if you're in clay/heavy soil....only drive it in about 10 or 12 inches....not all the way to the swivel.

In sandy soil....better go all the way to swivel and maybe a little more...then set it.

I swapped to Fangs a few years back as I cable my own and cut 'em on pull day.

Clint Locklear used to promote this auger set up for dirt holes. Randy Smith used it heavily in his Cornfields and Combines video. Then people stopped posting videos (on YouTube) of its use. I thought it was a great idea. But the coyote market tanked and I guess using the BT45 went with it.

I have a doz and I drive them about as deep as I can in any type of ground

1 2" hole right down the side of the chain and they pop right out for me

I am talking right on the chain though, as I get into it most times. Just run the drill slow

Most of the time I am running wolfang type and will either cut cable or pull them with a improvised puller

I run wolf fangs. About 8-9" of cable and then 4 links of chain.That attaches to the trap chain. Even in hard packed sand if driven down to the 2nd or 3rd link you'll have a hard time moving them. I do use an auger on a 1/2" drill to loosen so I can pull.

If it is not too cold, a little water poured around the chain loosens them up too.

Available from all the supply houses. There's also a larger version available from wolf creek that would do well on the water line in muck soils. Careful though as there are at least two makers and some have reported issues of one not fitting the drivers.

There's also high desert spears from no BS lures which the wolf fangs copied. Spears don't have the bent legs.

You don’t have to drive in the entire length of chain when setting. If it takes an act of Congress to pound it in, then I stop about 8-10” maybe. That’s clay.
If it’s sandy soil I may go the entire length.
A 20v Dewalt and an auger bit will get them up for me. I do like what Savell is using though, may have to look into one of those.

I believe this is the best advice, if pulling them is hard then drill more holes or go deeper, I’ve had more than one time when the stake was solid in the ground when set caught a freak rain storm loosened the soil up and luckily I pulled the set and did it with one hand, I now use cables that are about one inch longer than my driver about 25 inches.
