Seems to be getting more popular. When I was a kid I didn't know anyone under 50 that rendered their own, now it's pretty common. My bride is making a bear lard pie crust right now.

Yes, lard (animal fat) isn't as bad for you as they made it out to be. They're finding out seed oils are worse for you. So, the return of animal fats.

bear lard does not set up like hog lard or beef tallow, it remains a liquid.

That’s all my grandparents used, they raised and sold hogs so there was plenty of lard.

Lard around here is at least four times more expensive than it was a few years ago. We use mostly animal fats for cooking.

I make a few quarts every year when I process a pig at home.

Pure lard from a pig raised in the sun, is very, very good for you. A lot of the lard in grocery stores is hydrogenated , making it a trans fat, and so is nasty stuff. Check the ingredients, it'll say if it's hydrogenated.

We just rendered the lard off 4 hogs. I started with the leaf lard and then finished with the back fat. I did 3 gallons and the rest went to the chickens.’

they convinced people fat was bad because it was expensive
they replaced it with sugar in so many things

people caught on , lard isn't bad for you Rape might not be good for you but Lard is fine.

bear , beef , pork , chicken , duck
even butter
it's natural fat

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
