Armpits to the start of the neck always slow me down. I am always trying to get a steel through the pits ASAP to move it along.

I find in that area or even in the brisket area is to use a ball peen hammer the rounded end striking where the hide where it meets the flesh separates it pretty good.

I lean my stretcher at a sharp angle to start with so the legs dry easier if the legs do drop down along the hide that way just enough to get air under the fold.

If you plan on tanning that hide like stated you need to borax dust all the red areas from the nose down, ears also. Wouldnt hurt to dust the whole hide in your drying conditions.

Drying hides in high moisture areas can cause spoilage and slow down the process before you turn it to fur side out. Might want to get a fan and blow on it. Or hang your hide upside down for a while until it begins to stiffen to make the legs drop down the other direction.

Take some rolled up newspaper and stick it in your leg holes to allow the air to circulate under where the legs are laying against the body of the animal. The legs should stick out when the paper is rolled stiff enough to suspend those leg extensions or cut them off shorter. I cut mine off shorter to avoid that problem.

Better yet bring it down and put it on my fur drying system and it will be dried fur side out and off the rack in 3 days. I would hate to see you have fur slippage on your first coyote.

Yep what Bob mentioned. With the front legs I cut 8 inch piece of cardboard strips that won't bend and put them in the legs all the way to the board and pull the legs out and run a long pin through the hide and cardboard so the legs look stiff legged. Helps dry faster.

Borax the heck out of it but pay attention to it because the borax will dry it out quickly and you will need to turn it fur out after about 8 hours or it might be hard to do. Remember the coon creek outdoors youtube coyote videos that show using a metal rod to help skinning out the front legs and also he shows how to remove the ear cartlilage.

Don't use a scalpel, replaceable blade type knife for skinning except for the initial cuts and on the head, like around the eyes. The super sharp knife makes it to easy to make holes in the skin. If you use a regular knife that is not razer sharp it will cut the membrane and not the skin, just hit it with a steel to keep the blade just the way you want it. You can pull down and cut the skin loose quickly without having to be super careful because the duller knife won't cut the skin easily.

Thank you for all the advice everyone I got the cartilage out of the ears yesterday and did the borax and stuffed the legs and put in front of the fan for three hours or so and they are drying nicely now. That’s a load off my mind

Looks good smash. You don't need to turn it if you are having it tanned. I think you got it, now go get another one.

Yeah I’m not gonna turn them. I think they’re too dry to turn at this point.

Coyote is probably going to Moyle as I’ve never dealt with anyone else and I’ve been happy with their work

Nice job skinning and fleshing. Next time you get a first critter and are going to send it to be tanned skin them complete with paws and claws. Only takes a few more minutes and looks and feels better, especially when sharing with friends.

Help yourself.
