Bought this old long spring at a local antique store today. Couldn't tell what it was and I'm not an old trap aficionado.

A few minutes of scrubbing with some 000 steel wool revealed a very ledgable pan.

Probably not worth much and there's probably a million of them around, but still a cool tidbit of trap history

Not sure that’s an antique. Muskrats trap but will work for mink/marten. Thousands of those around I bet.

I bet White17 has a couple hundred.

I always considered those gopher traps.

People pay more for them than the #1's.

A very rare and valuable trap right there except that you turned it into a daily user with the steel wool.


Just messing with you. I woke up in a foul mood today and haven't been able to shake it yet. Hopefully, by jerking your chain quite unnecessarily, I will recover by next morning and go back to being my pleasant and respectful self.

It is hanging on the fireplace with a couple of 0 long springs I bought a lot later

I got a dozen of those in 1.5 size for Christmas in the early 70's, still have a few.

I've been using 0 jumps and longs for the barn rats.

When I come across a unused or unique trap I have a work bench I keep them on so they don’t get mixed in with the everyday ones.

It'll probably never get used. Unless someone needs barn rats trapped.

I just hope I can recover financially from the $1.50 investment I made in it. Lol
