Flaked or beaded makes it easier to get consistent coverage on the sand or dirt while melting.

I use a larger roof vent cap that’s wide enough for 2 heat lamps side by side it’s a great help with making waxed dirt without beating it into a powder. I can just lean the cap on one edge and roll it like a 55 gallon drum the dirt rolls and mixes well and mixes like a cement truck does. I use 2 roof caps 4 lamps 2 in each cap if I’m making a lot of waxed dirt at the same time but it’s not a quick process but it makes a course quality end product.

Powdered wax dirt is not your friend I preclean my dirt before I wax it. On windy days again the caps/bells reduce waste when cleaning the dirt of the fine powder stuff. Depending on the wind speed that determines how high I need to pour from be it just standing up or standing on the tailgate if the wind is lighter but steady. Some days I come home looking like a coal miner if the winds are shifting a lot. It’s often windy here so the opportunity comes up regularly finding wind tunnels around building tree belts is sometimes an option for greater wind speeds.

Sorry I misread your initial message. I think we were assuming waxed dirt clumped in a bucket. Heat it up under your second setup and pour the melted wax onto the dirt you are waxing.

I've had over waxed dirt before that was a sloppy wet mess. I just added dry dirt to it and mixed it into fix the issue. I find that mixing cold waxed dirt to hot waxed dirt prevents the hot batch from lumping when it cooled. Like you said just melting and mixing it would probably work out with help from the heat lamps and mixing it in by rolling it around some.

Jerry, just melt it and use it to make WDWS. I quit buying flake, bead wax years ago. Off my head I used 8 strong cups of flake/bead wax per 5 gallons of dirt/sand. So I melted down the 8+ cups down to get liquid equivalent. Heat up dirt/samd; I use cement mixer, once warm/hot pour in liquid wax n let it mix as usual. waaaay more convenient than worrying about flake/bead wax. Grabbed my glasses n fixed spelling, auto correct!!!

I’m sure I’ll mess it up but it will be interesting to try new things.
