Will a live beaver in a snare educate others?

I don't use snares for beaver, but have a 6 year old granddaughter who wants to help. She can set a snare.

I live in flat populated farm country. My beaver experience is limited to new pair moving in. As soon as they block a culvert the road or cornfield floods and I get to trap 2 beaver. A few 750's on drowning rods and I am removing the dam in a couple days.

Friend bought a house complete with beaver. Beaver have been here a while. Just doing him a favor, but I know how things change. My guess is if we educate one I will be called in May to remove it because it is now flooding his deer food plot.

If a live beaver is a problem, could I shorten the snare and put it on a drowning cable? Or maybe use a tangle stick in deeper water with a snare on extension cable?

I guess I could also just use a live snare and if there is an issue in 5 months do a dam break with a comstock or 750.

It would be worth the trouble to me if I can get a tanned beaver for my granddaughter that she caught herself.

Thanks for the help!!!

Most all of the ones I've snared were alive and on the bank sleeping when I got there. As far as I can tell, the live beaver didn't seem to bother the others I caught afterwards.

Snared ones often draw in others to see what's going on. They end up luring others in if you set the area well.

Thanks guys!

CTRAPS: appreciate the experience! Based on that I will give it a try.

Bob: L Thanks for advice. I always carry one just in case. I have had one get tangled up in underwater junk before and not make it to the end of the drown rod.

I like your terminology. Beaver on a leash is exactly what I call one caught with a cable. And they are either sitting on the bank or swimming around unless there is entanglement under water. Then they can be difficult to untangle depending on what they are tangle on.

Thanks guys.

Will have my granddaughter practice setting some snares this week and try to actually set the beaver pond on Saturday the 10th.

Will let you know how it goes.

I agree with others, leashed beaver don’t bother the unleashed ones a bit, if anything they attract them. I have a lot of video to support that.
