mine is Kohler powered , worst gas cap design I thing I have ever worked with , but since I set it up with an old bottom pan out of a rabbit cage that hooks on and covers the engine , it has started and been fine.

before the engine had a roof , it would collect water in the gas can on any long steady rain.
had to drain the gas a bunch of times , 10mm on the bottom of carb at least wasn't too hard but a pain
the little roof makes the difference , yes I wish I had a good place to put it inside but it lives outside most of the last 11 years I have had it . had to rebuild the ram seal this year other than that , oil and filter changes mainly besides dealing with water in the gas too many times.

I also put a new starter rope on it a couple years ago.

if I was doing a bunch of big wood for a OWB I would probably noodle a lot more of it at least part way through

noodle about 3/4 of the way through and it doesn't take much of a hit to make them halves
then you can stack them so they shed water when stacked

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

These two 10 year olds know how to use a maul; they both have a pretty good eye too.

Dad may have had his that long

If you can swing it, it will split it laugh

I bought one used at a garage sale
When I get stuff too big to wrestle into the splitter I will use the MM to get them down to manageable size

BTW my splitter will run vertical and that is the primary position it gets run in

This is what I use and I bought it used over 30 years ago. I love it so much I bought a spare but have never needed it.

We've had 16# and 12# Monster Mauls since the '70s.
Used to pit my son's against each other, got a lot of wood split fast, lol

And a Go Devil is something you hang off the back of a boat to go places outboards can't laugh

Never heard that term used for a wood splitting tool. Will have to remember that one

A mall is where you shop, In '75, I made and use a home made Maulie, weighs 10 lbs with a pick handle turned down to 2" and cross pinned. Works great! Jeeze, just did the math, that thing is 50 yrs old now, and I'm 76, we've put up a LOT of firewood in that time!

I had a maul that I replaced the wooden handle a few times with another wooden handle. Then I replaced it with a fiberglass handle epoxied into the head. Works great to this day although I mostly use a 30 ton gas splitter. I do burn 6-7 cords a year and keep 3 years worth on hand.

I have a 16# monster maul.

I don't use it much anymore because I physically can't, but when I was able to I split 8-10 cords of hedge a season with it.

I'm gonna have to retire it all together and buy an engine driven log splitter this year.

The trick with the monster mauls is you don't swing it... just raise it above your head and drop it driving it down with your knees....trying to swing it would break Paul Bunyan...lol

I too had a monster maul I bought at a yard sale, the man of the house died and his wife put a $4 price tag on it.I took it home and split a heck of a lot of wood with it until somebody decided they needed it more than me.I recently bought a Fiskars 8 pd.er and like it alot.Sure wish I had my Monster Maul back tho.
