There’s a group that hunts across the road from me, right on the shore of Lake Huron. The Michigan seasons are February, March and September. These are migrating crows and they shoot around 1300 every spring. Some days they shoot a few and some days 50. My February and March are somewhat annoying as all I hear is crows squabbling!

I dabbled in it last year and it is FUN! Like it’s been said, have several spots to go to if you want to make a morning or evening of it!

We used to really have some fun shoots back in my high school days. I remember some choice words when the feds added them to the migratory bird treaty in 73. Current federal framework is pretty liberal though if you are lucky enough to live in a state with a wildlife agency that supports a season. We've seen a noticeable increase in numbers in areas where we used to only have ravens and have had depredation issues with them in our orchard. I have been trying for the last 5 years here in New Mexico to get our wildlife department to open a season and they keep refusing. Too many bunny huggers in Santa Fe. We never had a landowner refuse permission to hunt crows.

Me and high school buddy use to hunting crows all the time! We always did more shooting than killing. But it was fun as all get out. Bring lots of shells

Tip
1. Hide in the brush real well
2. If you use decoys, washing them and use amoral to make them shine, I thought this was a joke but I seen the proof in getting them closer to shooting range. Have you ever seen a dull crow?? That is what I was told lol.
3. After shooting let they stay on the ground, the noise and movement always helped us with the next pass.

There's a big population around here and I've thought of trying a shoot myself.
When my dad was a boy he said they would try to wing shoot a crow and stake the live bird out in the field. Says it was the best crow call you can get. I think the possum cops might frown on that method nowadays.

Only heard stories about it. Unfortunately most of the good roosts have substantially less numbers in more recent times. West Nile has been pretty rough on them on and off. And the internet has done nothing but make it easier for people to track down locations

When we were kids and there wasn't a crow season. So, we waited for the nesting season. Then one of us would climb the tree and kick out the fledging's. The fledging's would put up a real fuss. Even while shooting the crows kept coming in.

For you WI guys some of you might remember the Poynette game farm. Well, the crows were a real problem. So, the roosting areas
were above the game farm head Quarters so the employs would run the crows out of the roost, and they would fly across the pheasant pens then roost in the pine along the road. There were times when there were 50 guys lined up on that road. It was a blast and lots of crows were shot. By then it was pitch dark. Then once the crows were in the pines we would walk through the pines and shoot them out of the trees.

We hunt them on the outside edges of big roosts along their flight routes to feeding grounds - fields, farms, dumps, whatever they're attracted to... We were woefully unprepared the 1st time we hunted them. But we learned. Crow hunting will teach you a lot about what good camo is and what it means to stay really still before taking your shots. A turkey or goose has nothing on a crow for eyesight, or brains. And if you've never seen a crow do crazy, evasive manuvers and fly faster than anything you've ever shot at before, you will

I call a few times a year usually when I wean calves and when I plant sweet corn. I hang what I kill around the feed troughs and the corn patch and they won't come back there

Those rotary snow goose machines, fitted with black windsock decoys, would work. We had a homemade one that we put together with a trolling motor and fiberglass rods. Dragging that and the battery out into the field was a PITA, but they couldn't resist checking it out, and a lot of them died over that thing
