Why is it so aggravating to set the darn things? Is there some kind of design flaw. Most of the time I can only get the trigger to catch in the night latch notch, no way do I get the pan further up on the trigger so I can move to the night latch when I am ready.

I kind of like the trap the way it is, and in a #2 size would even be better…
I don’t preset the traps before I go out setting…

Do yours have the newer stainless rod style dogs? Also do they have the pressed in bump in the pan where the dog engages? Last year rob caven changed the pan and the newer ones are easier to set. What happens is the thicker dog causes the power jaw to be pushed down further and the jaw hits the pan connecting arms where they go through the spring pin. You can buy new pans and pins. Very easy to change out. Or you can bend that part of the pan up a hair and that usually fixes it. The ones I have have a stainless rod dog. I have no idea if they are new style or not, having nothing to compare them too. They do not have a bump in the pan where the dog engages. So from what you are saying I can either knock a bump in the pan or buy new ones that have a bump in them? Many thanks for the response and the suggested fix Wade.

I contacted Minnesota Trapline Products and received a prompt reply from Rob Caven. He proposed a solution to the problem and I am very impressed with his customer service. This is a first class trappers supply and trap manufacturer and they understand how to react when a customer has a problem with one of their products.
I'm 81 years old and while it's not a very impressive thing to say at this point, they have a life time customer now.

Mac, what's the solution? I don't think it correct for me to announce the details of a private transaction. I can only say that he had a solution and it was a very satisfactory solution for me.

Sir… there seems to be a couple having the problem you described … I don’t think sharing the solution for them would be out of line

There was a short amount of time after switching over to the new round style stainless dogs that the traps we're hard to set. The pan was redesigned shortly after to eliminate this issue. If anyone is having this issue, please reach out to us at 320-599-4176 and we would be more than happy to correct it for you.
We appreciate the kid words, Mac.

I suggest that anyone that has 450's and the place where the dog latches on the pan is flat, straight across to contact Minnesota Trapline Products and tell them what you have and what the problem is. They are quite willing to solve the problem. It's a first class company and it's management as well.
