are you planning on being here for the Tribulation?? if so, reevaluate!! I kinda hoped that would occur before I had to transition to Jr High, or before my grandparents died… I believe I did already.

OIL was what we found was one of the first things we ran out of when we just picked a day to start eating out of the pantry and see how we could do for a couple weeks.
some food in the pantry is better than just cash put aside , the food you can eat , say you get hurt and you can't get out to the store. food in the pantry can get you till next week when you can arrange a ride to the store to get things.
Store what you eat , eat what you store!

Hoard meds. Most meds work well even after expiration, especially if you store them in the fridge. Not a first aid kit, full off-grid setup. Antibiotics of several different types, several types of surface antiseptics (betadine, alcohol gel, chlorhexidine, neomycin, etc.), furan-derived GI antiseptics, loperamide, strong painkillers, omeprazole, antihistamines. Plenty of good adhesive bandages, gauze, tourniquets. Nitro spray. Glover needles and filament for sutures, just in case. Vitamins. Scurvy is not fun. Other things like toothpaste, soap, a good supply of socks, gas cans and a portable gas burner are just as important, but it's a different subject.
Meds, ammo and ethanol will all make good currency when your current currency turns into paper, so a few feet of copper tube are good to have. Tobacco, too. Basic tools, axes and knives are a must. Traps are heavy, snare cable is lighter and more versatile but don't forget cable cutters.
Of all foods, I'd focus on oil, canned meat and condensed milk for calories and proteins. After nukes, you can trade the excess for that frozen broccoli if you feel the urge to eat healthy.
Some skills will buy you anything you want and will keep you safe better than guns and hoarded stuff. There's a reason why our medical universities always have plenty of students from cozy places like Liberia, Mozambique and the Middle East. Families over there will do anything to send at least one kid to learn to be a doctor. If you know how to fix sick people, especially with severed limbs, bullet holes and infections, you will be fine, people will take care of you.

You scared me, I just continuously roll my Sam's points, points don't expire. She must be ending her subscription (probably b/c of the move) and needs to dump them. Good for you guys. Sam's has $5 rotisserie chickens, at Kroger they are like $8. Cheap chicken thats easy to break down and freeze / can. I have a pressure canner, many jars, and lids... I think I could can a couple deer no problem, never have, but I'm able to. I also have a huge garden I practice growing things every year (seeds on hand) that I could jar up and can should it be necessary. I keep enough gas on hand for a few weeks of constant generator use, that could be rationed with on and off times. A couple of diff generator options. All of my hunting fishing and trapping gear. I started a mini library of info I may want to reference if phones and internet don't work. I vacuum pack flats of rice and beans (large bags from Sam's) with one of those mason jar vacuum sealers, you have to audit the lids every once in awhile to make sure they stay sealed. I buy and stock some canned veggies, clearance items at the grocery are good for that. I try to keep a good stack of firewood ready to go too. Reading this thread I'll probably start a tub of band aides, gauze, salves, and the such.
Kind of depends on what you are preparing for. I'm prepared for a few months stretch which can get me to Spring for planting is kind of how I look at it. If it goes completely sideways I worry about being vulnerable to attack (b/c they will want these things), its wide open 360 where I live, but I can see them coming I guess. The Appalachian boys back in a holler don't have to worry about such things with one narrow way in and out. That's a luxury I don't have. I don't know what all my town friends are going to do. They all think there is room for them all at my place I think but that math don't math. They don't realize its not just them I guess and that they are all saying that individually. Probably be the first wave of attack if you think about it. A few weeks into a hard core shutdown things will get kinda sporty I think.
I've recently started explaining to people my age that their grandparents lived through the great depression and had stores of food. That that was real and that it happened, its not a conspiracy. There is no reason to think that its not going to happen again and its foolish to assume it never will.
I was worried about Venezuela popping off. Turns out we just abducted the "leader" before everyone could get involved. Kind of genius if you think about it. Stock market boomed yesterday and I bought back in. I happen to think things are turning around for the better. Should be a good year to make some money in the market. Gods speed.
If you are young enough to not remember the USSR and being worried about such things it seems to me that's the mindset of the world taking shape again and the younger people not used to that thought are freaking. East and West hemispheres having a dominate power. The chess pieces are being set in place. Never hurts to be prepared.

Some good post. I always considered it to be one of my jobs as a dad. Blizzard, job loss, long term power outage, public unrest, etc….. A guy sleeps better when he knows he’s got his family prepared. It’s not complicated or expensive. Start with 3 days worth of supplies then work on 3 weeks and then 3 months. It might take 2 or more years depending on your financial situation. My list changes from time to time but here it is in order of importance
1) water 2) food 3) personal fitness 4) personal finance 5) meds and hygiene 6) personal protection 7) power and fuel
You’re not paranoid you’re prepared!!!
Everything the left touches it destroys

It's also good to be prepared to leave everything behind, including your home and vehicles, for a period of several days to forever, when you can only take what you can carry. Plenty of scenarios how this can happen.

May be a situation where you need to buy something and someone is unable or un willing to give you change

One thing I think a lot of people overlook is the fact that you likely won't be able to just google up how to do something. You should have some physical, printed copies of some how-to books. On my bookshelves, that I would recommend are: Storey's Basic Country Skills, The Encyclopedia of Country Living, Foxfire books, and Backwoods Home Anthologies.

There is doomsday and then there is a patch of rough times until society gets back on it's feet. I have come to believe it is our civic duty to be able to ride out a short term disaster, like an ice storm or similar. You ought to be able to survive on your own for at least a week, and two or more would be better. OP's frozen food section, depending on the season, is going to last for a few days at best. In short term, canned foods are better option, but long term that only remains an option until the jar lids run out. For those paying attention, Covid shortages taught us a lot about how to prepare for a rough patch.
But as for a true doomsday, forget it. Once the cord is cut......99% plus of modern society is not going to make it, nor would they want to. The hard core Amish are probably positioned to last the longest and even they are going to run into trouble. None of us are prepared to default back to lifestyle of native indians, even if we wanted to.

do you have a DDF Drop Dead File
you are going to die , I was at the funeral of an uncle yesterday , 89 , and at lunch talking with his widow she didn't even know where the tittles to both their cars were , the house was all in her name so that was good , but the stuff you need when you have someone die , that needs to be in the DDF.
Smash with your important records is great , is it also your DDF or do you need to make a DDF to go with it?
