The video you posted said he told the cops he was thought he was shooting at a coyote. Seems they ought to know him.

That is what I get out of it too. I see other things that were posted later that says they are looking for a suspect. For you thermal guy that think it could not happen could you make out a body behind 100 yards of cattails? I think all they could see was the trappers head, and maybe not all of it.

He could of been kneeling down working over a set or something. I'm not saying its ok to shoot if you don't know your target but I can see how at the right angle, it may not look like a person. Still stupid to shoot at.

People do unexplainable things when they get "buck fever".
Thete was an incident a few years ago in SE Alaska out on a tidal flat (wide open country, no brush, broad daylight). A hunter and his guide crossed a river on foot less than 100 yards apart, the hunter arrived on the opposite side just seconds before the guide. As soon as the guide arrived on the opposite side his hunter shot and killed him. The hunter swore the guide was a bear.
Some people get so worked up in high-stress situations that their eyes see what they want to see.
BTW, the hunter was a doctor from Michigan.
