330-trapper was kind enough to share some pictures and dimensions of his beaver float. I built one and a week later got a nuisance beaver call. The first check yesterday produced a nice flat tail. Thanks 330-trapper!!

I've had questions regarding the measurements, etc on the float. I got the idea, measurements and pictures from 330-Trapper. He has given me permission to publish them here. The main difference with mine are the main legs are 30" long; I use a 1"x2" on the bottom to secure the second piece of foam. Experiment with what may work. I was happily surprised to catch one on my first check.

I've been looking for some western redcedar 2X4s to make some of those. It floats like a cork and doesn't get waterlogged or rot.

Careful trusting those poultry nails. We went all the way throug.

I got to ask,,,,, why a float there? Water fluctuation?
The site looks like any number of sets could be used.
It is not were I would usually position a float.

Correct - water fluctuation. TVA raises and lowers the water regularly. The range is 7 feet. Mid November the drain starts and by April 15 it should be back to full pool.

Besides, I wanted to make one for fun.

If it is a place you trap on an annual contract, I would make a floating swim through double log set.
Similar to Charles Dobbins log bank set.

Awesome!
I'll have to crack Pauls book open again, but I think I pick up what you're laying down Vinke.
Beauty about trapping is sometimes you gotta really use your imagination in tough spots. Them floats are great for crazy water fluctuations.
