What's the depth from the bottom of the wire to the top of the tray?

Looks like they might be on rods.

Rods. Do use brake rotars on 10' chains sometimes.

Tray depth is about 3". Built out of white pine boards....not 1x4s.

I dipped those trays in F1 trap dip. Most have lasted 6 or 7 years with just a few annual repairs. Just don't leave them laying directly on dirt. I leave them outside...on concrete slab.

My next batch will be built from cypress with 3/4" angle iron legs.

H1,
My theory is they do that b4 climbing up on them and getting caught.

Maybe trying to dislodge the tray & use to plug the break I make in their dam.

Ok i figured being under 5 or 6 inches of water they would bump into them then get caught without thinking about chewing on them.

Good observation and you may be correct. The chewing may be done by another beaver after one is caught and the tray is dislodged. Most catches it doesn't dislodge.

Thanks for reposting Swamp Wolf. What was the main reason to use these?
I was going to try them last summer, but I wound up just placing the traps in the water, depth depending on front or rear foot catch.

I dont want to speak for SW, but when I first started using them it was due to muck bottoms where the weight of the beaver just pushes the trap down into the mud instead of setting the trap off. But, they are super convenient even if you have decent bottom conditions.

I think your right, something to do with the mud.

Yes^^^^^ & Yes^^^^^

Allows trap stability in muck bottoms.

I got the idea from watching this video. I've tweaked his original idea to meet my needs. Mr. Lafforrthun uses the trays in a more complex way than I do.
