How do you unroll wire and keep its shape? do you do a little at a time? And how do you prepare it for dying? Appreciate any feedback.

I normally just leave em out in the sun a few weeks then tiger stripe them with spray paint.

As for the unrolling wire thing, are you talking about the snare cable or the support wire?

Cable has a memory from being on the roll don’t fight that use it to your advantage when you make the loops don’t forget to put the 7 bend on the back of the lock in the cable to make the loop. I test everyone I make to see how the lock closes.

To make a better loop the cable can be manipulated some to improve the loop by pulling it away from the loops as you roll it over the index finger.

I repair mine during the winter when I am making catches. From there they get hung on a branch in the yard till the middle of summer then use spray paint also. Like law dog mentioned pay attention to the cable memory when your replacing it, you will end up with much rounder loops.

Newt has some good videos. Rally Hess taught me how to properly make snares. my snare catch ratio went up exponentially

Use the memory of the cable as stated, make your snares one at a time or cut however many you want to do off the big spool. I drill a hole in the side of my spool and feed the cable back through so it doesn't get loose and pool on floor. When you build them roll in fingers, you'll see how the snare "lays, put in the 7 bend for the lock and build form there. Read about loading it help a a great deal!!! (you will burn up cable learning to load, but the pay off is worth it.

I no longer dye and wax snares, I just lay out on ground or cardboard paint flat camo spray paint, light and darker tans brown etc. both sides especially the locks and ends.

You didn't ask about cable size locks etc, so I will touch very lightly here, I like the 1 x 19 cable vs the 7x7, it's stiffer. makes a nice round loop. and coyotes are less prone to chew out. Locks well there are so many options I like Grawe's bullet locks, mini cam locks or Slim Locks.

Don't fightbthe natural curl. Work with the curl or maybe obey the curl. The cable is in charge.
