I caught a giant Hobb fisher, after sitting outside for 24 hours the carcass weighed just under 13 pounds. Cape was 55 inches long when I put it in the beam. Already fleshed and salted the pelt. Anyone have an idea on live weight?
Really wish I would’ve weighed him.

Looks like a nice Male. It's too bad the season closed a couple of weeks ago.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Largest fisher for me was 18 lbs...HUGE Male .

Caught it while targeting coons....10 days before fisher season opened

So ... Doing the right thing ..I called my CO....and a different CO showed up...

I was thinking he would let me keep it ....WRONG !!!

He took it.

I didn't realize the Southern season was different dates.

That is a giant. It’s a shame how some of those interactions turn out when you are trying to do the right thing. I almost think that the regulations should state that you get 1-2 accidental catches per year that count towards your yearly limit. If you’ve already caught your limit for the year and you have another accidental catch it would deduct from next years limit. Something to let you keep it.

I agree, something needs to change but I am not sure what the answer is. If I were to catch a Fisher here today in a cat set, the legal thing to do it to report it to the CO and surrender it. What is to keep me from saying I caught it in the Southern zone and keeping it? I didn't realize until your post that the dates were different between the zones. Anyway, that is a brute of a fisher and you should be proud of it.

Thank you, I agree, we need to get the fisher and bobcat seasons to overlap. The limit is 2 up north, and that where I trap and live, I caught this fisher in the southern zone in a 220 cubby set. The only reason I had a trap down there was because it’s my buddy’s property and he had a bobcat on camera that I was targeting.

You can still get the weight by using both the boarded pelt and board + carcass - board once removed. A dried pelt would have lost about a pound of fleshings with a big male like that.

Did you save the " rocky mountain oysters"

No rumour has it they are a special request for summer fishing sorties in NW Ontario dessert appetizers, and the swizzle sticks from those southern Minn fisher hold the olives in the martini glasses

A 55”er is a good one anywhere, congrats!!

For tanning, are you doing it yourself? Just curious as the best part of what I get tanned is all I do is skin, bag and freeze.

I will be tanning it myself. I’m somewhat of a novice tanner. I have done lots of foxes, I have had a harder time with the thicker skinned animals like beaver and otter. Tanning is getting so expensive that I am going to try get good at it I guess.

Yes I agree something needs to change with the seasons. The last few fisher I have caught were in bobcat sets right away during the season. I almost hate to have cat sets out after the fisher season especially if using bait. We have a limit and they did it with the otter season.

I completely agree with you. Like I said a month ago, if we could get a 48 hour check on snares and footholds during the cat season I would never set another 220.
