Nice 21 lbs bore coon yesterday. Brought him in and brushed him out and started to skin. Pulled down around the rear legs and found shot gun shot just under the hide. Kept going and found 10 more 7 1/2 shot. I’m sure there lots more. This is a first, I thought. Should be a real treat to flesh on a beam?
Let here you surprise when skinning your catch!

Skinned a few coyotes with .22 bullets sitting just under the skin, and had several with birdshot on rear ends and chest areas. Had a couple with non-mortal but more severe gunshot wounds. Haven’t skinned many coon carrying birdshot though.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

With the bird hunters here flushing the yotes out of cover we get several a year with shot up butts. It’s not as big of a deal on a fur side out critter unless it’s infected.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Use to catch a few otters every year with pellets under the hide courtesy of the duck hunters.

I had one this year that had fine shot in him also. The land owner did say that they have been in their garbage.

this wasn't really found when skinning but when we went to harvest some meat for the table while hunting some coons at night and waiting for the dog to return we decided to harvest some legs because the truck was right there and we wouldn't have to carry them so as we where chopping off the feet with a hatch there was a weird sound like metal on metal and the foot never broke off we found a stainless steel rod in this coons leg have it kicking around somewhere still also found out why that corn patch always had a ton of coon in it the person about half a mile away worked for the spca and we came to the conclusion that she was bring coon home and releasing them in the country also have killed a pile of yotes with birdshot and buckshot wounds the occasional beaver with shotgun wounds too

Found lots of shot in coyotes especially when I lived down south. The odd 22 bullet. Pulled a couple 22 type bullets out of bears before. One was in the side of his head. Found it as I was cleaning the skull

Caught an otter a few years ago that had a 22 bullet lodged in his cheek. Have caught a few with steel shot in them as well

I used to have an ash tray in my fur shed half filled with shotgun pellets and 22 slugs that I pulled mostly off of otters while skinning.

I shot a 7 1/2 year old buck this year that was covered in birdshot just under the skin and in the layer of fat on the backstrap. One small hole, possibly from a .22 going through the backstrap.
I guess a couple grouse hunters saw him and thought he was big enough to take the risk!

Found birdshot in a Fisher once too.

Was squirrel hunting with a young dog one time and heard her barking and running toward me as fast as she could. Right behind her was a large coyote chasing her. So I unloaded 3 rounds of bird shot into him and he ran off. Fast forward a couple years and I trapped a big male coyote about 100 yards from where this all happened at. When I skined him out he was full of bird shot. can not say it was the same coyote I shot but I would not be surprised.

I am thinking I will find a coyote this season with a bunch of #6 in the hind end. My 13 year old was out with his greatly grandpa's double barrel 12 and sent both barrels at once into a coyote about 40 yards away.

He was asking me if I thought it would die, I told him maybe but I don't think so it was not likely much of that shot made it in more than a few inches.

not sure why it is a surprise 7 1/2 shot they just get up and keep going

all those people who think it is the greatest self defense round for in your house haven't shot a coon running out of a corn crib with it.

anything that hits hard enough to work , hits hard enough to go through a wall

40 yards #6
I put my money on nothing over an inch penetration.

I hope you catch it and can see.

dog got a pheasant this fall without a shot fired by me, it had a broken leg with one #6 that broke the bone and was in the drumstick about a half inch further.

I shot a nasty old mangy male coyote about 5 years ago with my 204 and a 39gr Sierra Varminter.
Went to get him out of the field. Threw him on the tailgate opposite side up and he had a quarter sized hole in his hairless skin from being previously shot by the neighbor. Tough critters they are !

I used to trap a pond where I would get a few muskrats a year with buckshot in them. The owner didn't like rats in his pond.

Had a nice buck once with at least 3 steel shot in the meat. Found while cutting back straps and a couple rattling in the grinder. Few years later on another older buck i dug out a folded cylindrical piece of lead from under his hide, back neck area. Was completely healed over.
