I see videos on Facebook of a guy trapping coyote and Fox for live market. It is hard to watch. He handles the animals with zero respect, and is unnecessarily rough on them. I can not imagine behaving in that way, let alone filming it to publish on the internet. It almost seems like it is negative propaganda created by people opposed to trapping.

Am I missing something here?

When I catch an animal, I take care of it as quick as possible, in the most humane way available to me. I think 99.9% of hunters and trappers do the same thing. In my opinion those videos are doing serious damage to the image of all sportsmen, particularly trappers.

I agree with ya, you see a great big man standing over a little grey fox trying to grab at it, just gives you the wrong feeling even for a trapper

It’s hard enough not to be offensive to others even if you’re speaking and acting respectfully.
This bozo you’re speaking about needs a talking to by his state association.
I hope you commented and told him how you feel as a fellow trapper

The videos of the guys running coyotes with greyhounds seem completely moronic to post but they're throwing them up on Facebook, idiots in my opinion.

And if you've noticed it has gone from a post or two on the main Fakebook trapping group 3-4 weeks ago to a bunch of videos on that group plus the half dozen other trapping groups along with a number of individuals promoting themselves. Id' say a huge percent of the stuff coming into my feed are these videos now. My initial impression was that the videos did a good job of live handling but now most the posts have becoming pissing matches with hardcore antis and that odd group of hunters that dont approve of trapping.

Question, have you noticed the increase in the use of the word retard/retarded?

How about other "offensive" words?

Things are changing and if we're going to be labeled it them by gum we'll own it and let it fly.

Quit getting your knickers in a wad, guys.

I get what you’re saying.
But you can’t teach ethics.
Someone can do everything legally and yet still have crap ethics. That’s on their own conscience. The spectrum of respect for wildlife is wide.
Public image of trapping and trappers should be important for us.
As mentioned, there are idiots everywhere

I love coon creek outdoors videos but once during his narration he ostracized those who do not agree with trapping and even gave the middle finger and I felt that was in poor taste.

Hard to comment without seeing the videos...

I think I seen one it was posted here before and I didn’t like it.
I realize you can’t be gentle with wild animals….
But also no reason to blatantly be cruel and make videos manhandling them like some kind of big shot.

Probably the guy has a tiny peepee and gets his jollies in weird ways

saw a hound video the other day. They had a bear in a tree about 40' up. They waited a long time for the shooter to get there. He pulled up on the 2 track in a SxS or truck and strolled up. When he shot it they filmed the bear falling from the top of the tree and hitting the ground. all bloody from impact. I didn't see any broken laws but it sure didn't leave a good visual. you would think some editing would go a long way.

The mentality 'i'll do what i want how i want' has been around long as i been trapping which is creeping up on 50 years now. Anti's use to fake and stage photo's to use for fundraiser's, sadly now days trappers provide them with an endless supply of material on a daily basis to use.

For whatever reason trapper's don't have enough sense to realize it isn't a us against them peeing contest, it's the majority in the middle of the two groups who could care one way or the other UNTIL a nice video is shoved up in their face or a bloody picture, doesn't matter who is right/legal or who isn't, if it's offense to them enough they will get involved and then you can kiss whatever right's you think you have goodbye forever!

All this catching coyotes with bare hands and other crap ive seen, great you can do that but did you ever stop to think MAYBE a 12 or 13 year old kid just starting out decides to see if he or she can do that too? If you tossing stuff on the internet you have a responsibility to assume little eye's and ear's are watching and reading, be a good example to them you might be the trapper they end up idolizing.

But i know all of that falls on deaf ear's, it has all my life.

After posting this i see one is at a health dept today cause a coon bit him, guess was trying to take it out of the trap bare handed too. Least it's getting tested for rabies.

That might not be correct. The last post I saw indicated he had death rayed it and was later bit when it "recovered"

You can't tell them anything. Its been tried. The one where a guy caught his first fox was a duzy.He walked up to the fox,of course it.went to the far end of the chain. He put it on a loop so it played over and over nonstop. He had hundreds of negative posts,he didn't care.I tried talking him out of it.I don't know how it turned out. This was some years ago I don't think this would fly now with Facebook's new criteria.Another one had some bubba walking up to a coyote with his pistol explaining he shoots some, but uses an aluminum baseball bat on others.I tried busting his chops over that but he said"Im a trapper, its what I do".Unbelievable

Greenpeace went from a mostly unknown entity to worldwide aclaim and fame because of some nincompoops that allowed themselves to be filmed clubbing baby seals in Greenland. Not to speak of how much money came rolling in for them.

Have you ever handled coyotes for the live market? I know I haven't, so I'm not sure what it takes to get them out of the trap and into the holding box. If you link the video, maybe some of our live market trappers can weigh in.
