I have what is known locally as a recreational lot near the Kasilof river on the Kenai peninsula. We have it set up nicely for our needs with a small dry cabin, outhouse, a firepit, seating and a 40-foot Connex. We live about 5 miles away and use it as a staging area to access the beach for surf fishing for halibut and dip netting for reds. We have been considering occasionally renting it out as a private campsite. It is not suitable for large RVs, and I was wondering how many people make the drive in a car or truck and would be seeking simple place to crash. From personal experience driving thousands of miles on road trips in the lower 48 and Canada, this would have been a godsend and a money saving alternative to a motel every night. One of our last trips, we took a tent and could barely push our aging bodies off the ground after a couple hours sleep.

This is the exact type of thing ide be looking for. I've been trying to get my wife to let me buy a place like that in the Kenai, she's a hard NO but depending on price Ide love to do a every other year rental for a couple weeks.

Main problem I see is everyone will want it during Salmon runs. I call dibs for Reds!

That sounds almost ideal to me! I would much rather stay in a rustic camp with a little privacy over a motel anyway.

I have nothing clever to put here.

If you are looking to buy a place, the price has doubled in the last couple years. They are asking 75 for 2.5 acres of raw land across the street from us. You would need to spend at least another 5k for a culvert, short driveway and pad. We read the realtor listings daily in our area and are amazed at the lack of availability. This is a prime spot for dip netters as it is less than 2 miles from the beach, however, we are not really interested in letting resident dip netters use it as they have a reputation of dumping fish waste and trashing the area. The rod fishermen seem to be lighter impact. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Well, you sold too early when you were my "neighbor" but made out on your places up there!
By the way, one of the gooseberry cuttings you gave me all those years ago got huge, until one morning, mid-summer, I notice it looked sick. Turned out it was covered in tiny inchworm-looking bugs, but teeny, maybe 3/8" long. Thousands of them.
I bought a bottle of Sevin after work, but when I got home, there wasn't a leaf left. Of course it died, but the other one, a different type that didn't get nearly as large, but did bear fruit, was still going strong a couple years ago when we moved.

Just doing what I want now.

Everything planted in Southeast gets killed. Deer, bear, porcupine, rain and snow. Rough place to garden. We called our yard the killing fields. Not missing the 80 inches of snow they just got.
160, if you make it up this way, you are more than welcome to use our place, just leave it as you found it. Would hook you up with a SxS ride down the beach and a tour of the area you won't read about in the milepost.
