Bearcoons OP trapper B Joined: Aug 2022 Wv	I think my sets are contaminated. So I discarded my wax dirt I made years ago bought new. I pulled my sets I’ve discarded my screen covers got new. I am soaking my traps in a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. After a few days I plan to rinse clean let air first a few days then dye and set. Will a 3 day soak 3 day air out be enough before dye. I’m not planning to wax but can. What’s everyone’s opinion. Targets. Cat, coyote fox.

When you take your traps out of the vinegar rinse them with fresh water Then dunk them in a bucket of desolved baking soda in water Without nutrilizing them in baking soda they will rust and pit Last edited by wetdog; 01/12/26 03:50 PM.

I’ll add when snow was on tracks revealed interest but they got no closer than 5’. Consistent rejection. Final straw was a blind post set that a coyote and fox both was marking then avoided after I made the blind set.

Wanna Be trapper W Joined: May 2018 SW Georgia	If you’re not catching fox or cats, it’s not your traps. Heck it may not be anything other than the wrong wind. People knock trail cams but I’ve seen coyotes, cats, and fox walk right by sets and pay them absolutely no attention. The next night they act like they make a Bee line straight to the set. If the wind is wrong they may not even know the set is there. If too much lure is used, there’s no need to get close enough to check it out.

Bearcoons OP trapper B Joined: Aug 2022 Wv	I try to set the upside of every trail to make sure the wind ( the normal wind) will carry it across the trail. I also agree I’ve used trail cans in the past and saw this exact thing.
