Folks seemed interested in the Alberta independence movement

As of January 2 we’ve begun collecting signatures on a petition, to force a vote on Alberta leaving confederation

The response has been overwhelming

Little venues across Alberta have been holding events nightly,,, people have been standing in line for hours,,,in the middle of winter,,,, huge line ups!!!

have till May to collect 200 000 signatures,,,,, hoping for a million plus

The actual vote will happen sometime in the fall( October- November)

Extremely exciting!!!!

Sounds promising. How is the economic situation of the area, will it be strong enough to support itself, barely get by or excell with growth without the lefts taxes and restrictions?

Its early yet but any idea of what the government will look like? Are they going to model our constitution and include God given rights to self defense/bear arms, property ownership rights and get rid of gun restrictions. They may have a great opportunity to get better gun rights than we have in the US. Unfortunately having so many restrictions so long and it being a privilege not a right people probably see it as normal and acceptable.

Going to keep free health-care. Tons of questions and its pretty exciting just thinking about all the possibilities. May be nice to get dull citizenship if its offered.

Non resident trapping would be nice too.

Now, I would love to see it happen. I'm in atlantic canada SP Jones in Nova scotia. lived and worked in calgary a bit when I was younger and if alberta seperated would consider moving my family & small business out west.

Only problem is I don't think it will ever happen. people are more fired up about it than ever but 1 million signatures is about 20% of all of alberta. How many people bother to show up to vote in an election country wide? I don't think you'll get the numbers you & me are hoping for, but the biggest thing too is look at how much indian territory you guys have? The cheifs aren't going to give up their free money and benefits from the government... free housing, little to no taxes, 20K when they turn 18, hunt and fish whenever, and keeping the money for themselves? they crap on the federal government but they never gave up sucking on the feds tits... pardon my language..

I think it's just strong posturing to get the liberals to lean towards albertas favour for once instead of always screwing them over.

There’s 2.8 +\_ m eligible voters in Alberta

Less than 2% of Alberta is native land,,,, the rest was ceded under treaties

Each FN will get 1 vote, just like every one else,,,, most are tired of living in poverty while the corrupt chiefs pocket federal money,,,,, the rest are all addicted to fenty

Over 60% of albertans voted to end equalization payments in the last election

People that are willing to stand in lines for hours diffently will vote

Voter turnout is not going to be a problem

Lots of people come up with reasons why it won’t work,,,

Nobody can come up with a reason why we shouldn’t
