I would say NO. God allowed your friend to get cancer. Were they an absolute image of perfect health and nutrition before that? God allows many negative things in our lives including the death of our children, loved ones etc. It is a consequence of original sin. The Earth even growns from it. The good news is - He saw we could not overcome sin and the consequences of sin by ourselves. He sent us His only son - Jesus - who died for our sins, so that we might have the choice of eternal life (without pain or consequences of sin) if we accept His redemptive work on our behalf. We don't have to earn it, we can't be good enough and none of us deserve it. We just have to have faith what He did was enough for us.
