Good morning. First post in a long while. I was a member in the early 2000s when I trapped some in college. Have finally gotten back into it this winter and have been having a ball.

I’m primarily targeting bobcats and coyotes. I’ve been using some DPs around my bobcat sets to try to head off the coons before they get to and destroy my bobcat sets. Seems to work okay, had one double with a coon in a DP and a bobcat just 10 yards away in a dirt hole.

I’m a little concerned about using the DPs around cattle, as I’ve been baiting them with a couple pieces of dog food and some sweet smelling Moonshine lure. I’m not worried about the cattle hurting the traps, I’m worried about cow tongues . . .

Anybody ever hear of issues with cattle and DPs? Is it better to cover them? I’ve read on here some cover them with a golf ball?

Thanks for the input

I wouldn't worry about it.

I've never caught a deer in one and I know they knock 'em over with their nose.

Cow tongues are way too big to get down into a DP, they are very wide, I wouldn't worry about that at all

Set some extra one's and try not to let the cows see you. Also after your through there go mess around at a different spot for awhile where the cows will come down there instead of where you're traps are.
