Had a few sets out and we had a light snow.
I observed coyote tracks walking near my projection sets but kept on trotting… like they were not interested whatsoever… I’m not sure if my lure has lost its strength or what the deal is.
I know they are pairing up,,, figured the good ol gland lure/urine would do the trick as usual.
I had an older bottle of hellfire that does have some slight skunk smell to it… I assumed the coyotes would not have an issue smelling it given their extremely high sense of smell.
The wind direction I don’t think was a problem,,, I’ve got them set to where the wind direction would blow it into their nose from whatever direction they were going.

I started thinking about using the strongest long distance lure I knew of other than hellfire.. gusto was the one that came to mind..
I ordered a bottle from MTP last night.
Might dab some on the Cookie Monster.
What other lures are ldc that you guys know of??

Maybe they got all they wanted from a distance.

Welcome to coyote trapping. You might not be doing anything wrong they are just being coyote. If you can smell the lure they have no problem smelling it.

Sets like that are more productive with a more subtle type of lure and odor. One that they have a difficult time in refusing. Most use too much lure and face that problem more often than not. This is the time of year for marking type sets and calling card type of sets.

More lure and more stink at your set will not improve your success. Well blended, and positioned, Marking type Sets, put in near other sets with loud odors will out produce those flashy sets this time of year.

Their minds and focus are upon other interests besides food currently. Most of their time is spent on communication and leaving scent about.

One trapper that’s no longer on here told me a long time ago, if you can smell it (lure) after you make a set, it’s too much.

I’m also a believer of sometimes it just ain’t what they’re wanting. There’s times I go to town and pass up multiple places to eat because it ain’t what I’m craving. Other times I stop at the first place I come to.

Setting same ground? if so they may well know where and what you have to offer. change it up or it could be they had other thngs in mind.
