The last one I sold about 2 months ago I charged $3.40 per pound hanging weight and it hung at about 850 pounds. The customer paid all processing on top of that. It was the first time I ever charged that much, market conditions forced me to raise my prices considerably. Only a year and a half ago I was at $2.25, but if I didn't raise it to that I would have gotten more money just taking it to the sale barn. Even after the raise in price I figured I only got about 200 more than I would have gotten at the sale barn and Its much more hassle.

I found it cheaper for me to buy the ribs and new yorks when xmas sales were going then fill in with ground beef I grind at home from on sale chuck roast and bottom round roast.I bought 4 whole ribs and 2 whole new yorks thru the xmas season this year and paid 6.99 a pound thru various stores Fred Meyers and safeway. I see regular ground beef on sale this week for 3.98 ln in 5 lb rolls and the same store has 4.29 top round, I'll be going today and getting 20 lbs of each to grind together giving me a good lean ground beef at 3.64 a pound. Now I'll only need to go to cash and carry when out and about and get a bag of ibp tri-tip roast for 5.59lb and I'll have close to a years supply of beef for the 2 of us.So for around 980-1000. I'm willing to work a little to save money but when you figure 20 dollars a week for a couple eating mostly steaks I think it's worth it.When I had kids i would buy a half of beef but I'm a meat cutter so never paid to have it cut and neither of us really like roast so this works best for us.

Interestingly enough, some of the most dangerous encounters I’ve ever had with bulls have been with Jersey bulls. Never trust them.

Ive ate jersey before and was very good but the steaks weren't very big compared to beef.
