I was putting in a few extra yote and cat sets this morning and decided to walk an old ATV trail that leads from hardwood bottoms to pines. I had to use my hip boots due to the water in the ruts. When I got to high ground in the pines it was covered in fox scat. I walked the trail and it turned into a nice trail through the pines. About every 25-50 yards I would find a game trail that would cross the UTV trail, and there would be fox scat and sign. I about emptied my side by side of traps. There is no telling how many gray foxes are running those pines.

Later I was setting on a beaver run coming off a pond and decided to walk it into the woods. I had to squat and some places crawl through the briars. I followed it until it came to a spot that where there was less thickets and more open. There were trails, well worn trails, crisscrossing the beaver run. I returned to my side by side, loaded down with body grips and snares. Tomorrow I will continue to follow this little dry land run until I hit the property line.

Sometimes I put on the hip boots and load up the pirogue, and push into spots no one goes. Its amazing as to what you find in these places. Why am I posting this? I think too many trappers trap from their truck or ATV, and need to put in some walking/wading...It's work but it pays off big time.

Briars are hard on hipboots. You must go thru several pairs a season

Never too old to learn

Hopefully you post some updates and pics. I can imagine it looks like a different world from what I'm used to trapping here in the West.
