Guys,,,anyone try to successfully keep homemade bait from freezing by using plan ol table salt?
The bone dust stuff I’ve been using is nothing but a solid ball right now.I have several soft ball sized ones.
I don’t know if there’s too much moisture in it to be kept unfrozen by using salt… thought I’d ask as it’s thawing out right now.

I haven’t had good luck with table salt as an antifreeze here when temps drop below zero. Sort of like on roads, there’s a point in temps where it’s effective and a point it is not.
I have had good luck with canning salt for carp chunks it dries them out but sort of cures them too. They will still freeze though in extreme temps.
That’s about my experience with it.

Salt only works when its above about 15 F. You need a lot of it when its that cold. Toss your bait jar up on the dash and turn your defroster on when you let your pickup warm up. Best is to bring it into a heated building at night. Glycerin works better as antifreeze than salt. Keep a small bait jar in inside coat pockets. Refill as needed during the day.

Do you have any mineral oil?
That will work better than salt

Glycerine for antifreeze but it will mute odors so be careful. Made some rabbit and muskrat bait for mink stayed unfriendly to '-10
